What is This Course?

Ambivalence.ca is a free, self-paced online course designed to equip you with practical skills in brief Motivational Interviewing (MI). Tailored for those on the front lines of homelessness and addiction support—outreach workers, peers, volunteers, shelter staff, and harm reduction teams—this course teaches you how to turn everyday brief contacts (30 seconds to 5 minutes) into powerful opportunities for change.

Right now, thousands of daily interactions across Canada (supply handoffs, check-ins, street encounters) remain transactional, missing the chance to bridge people from pre-contemplation or deep ambivalence toward readiness for detox, treatment, or recovery. Backed by evidence showing 10-30% boosts in treatment engagement, this course provides the tools to close that gap ethically and safely.

Course Structure: 9 Sequential Modules

Each module includes in-depth content, real-world vignettes, interactive reflections, tools, and a 10-question exam (80% pass required to unlock the next). Complete all 9 to earn your certificate of completion.

Why Take This Course? Enhance your impact, reduce suffering, save lives, and cut system costs—all in the fleeting moments you already have. Based on verified 2025 data from sources like AMO, CIHI, and CCSA. No prior experience needed; mobile-friendly for on-the-go learning.
